“My goal is to combine my animal experience and rescue work with my chaplaincy experience to create an environment in which we begin to listen to one another from our hearts.”

The founding of Dreamtime

Nancy Jensen–Case and daughter Sarah began Dreamtime Sanctuary in the late fall 1995 in response to their frustration at having been unable to help three abandoned horses in a neighboring pasture. Mother and daughter contacted every agency in the area, only to meet with a total lack of concern.

The pair vowed to do everything in their power to help other animals and prevent their suffering the fate of these three.

Nancy and Sarah connected with Arizona friends, whose organization, Hacienda de los Milagros, offers sanctuary to burros, including wild ones from Death Valley and BLM as well as domestic burros and horses. Thanks to them, Dreamtime secured initial 501(c)(3) status.

Dreamtime Sanctuary now operates as a single entity.

The sanctuary

Dreamtime has offered rescue, rehabilitation and sanctuary for horses, burros, and other farm animals such as sheep, goats and pigs since 1997.

Current sanctuary residents include 14 horses, 3 burros, 30 sheep, 8 goats and 18 pigs, 8 dogs and 14 cats. The sanctuary is located on a rural road about four miles outside of Elgin, Texas.

We welcome your visits but do ask that you call first to make arrangements. Dreamtime friend Devorah has made videos of her visits you can view here and here.

We’re on Facebook, too. Please join us at We support Dreamtime Sanctuary critters!
